Brother rescues sister from watery grave
– A 13-year-old boy has rescued his sister, four years his junior, who had fallen into a 70-feet deep unprotected drinking well in Chilaw.
On the Sinhala-Hindu New Year day, Achini Dananjaya had been bathing in the well, when she fell in.
Nipun Dhananjaya, who had been playing close by, raised alarm, but no one had heard him.
He had then tied a rope into a tree and dropped down the well and got hold of her when she broke surface.

Police arrest brother of suspect?
Police in Baduraliya stands accused of arresting the brother of a man who had reportedly hunted for treasure.
He had been taken to the police station yesterday (Apr. 16), allegedly for the purpose of obtaining a statement.
However, police had later threatened him that he would not be released until his errant brother surrenders.
When contacted, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said he had no information about such an arrest.
Latest reports say that the father of the two is preparing to produce the suspect before court.
CCTV camera van to patrol Colombo city
A van equipped with CCTV camera facilities will patrol Colombo from today (Apr. 17) to ensure the city is free of crime.
It will officially leave Police Headquarters on its beat at 4.00 pm following a function to be chaired by IGP N.K. Illangakoon.
This van will patrol the main junctions and byroads that have not been covered by the CCTV cameras installed at key locations in the city.
Court told about Duminda Silva’s whereabouts
MP Duminda Silva, a suspect in the Mulleriyawa political gunfight, has been receiving in-house treatment at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital, the CID said.
ASP of CID Shani Abeysekar informed Colombo additional magistrate Prasanna Alwis today (Apr. 16) that the parliamentarian’s whereabouts were revealed by his father, Aramudura Vincent Premalal Silva of Pelawatte, Battaramulla, when he gave a statement on March 30.
The 16 suspects in the shooting incident, which claimed the lives of presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others, were brought to the court, and were further remanded until April 27.
Two others are out on bail, while MP Silva and Galaboda are yet to be arrested.
The court was also told that MP Silva will undergo another surgery later this month.
Part of his skull has been moved, several pieces of shrapnel are still embedded in his head, and he is in a very weak condition.
Counsel for the aggrieved party Tirantha Waraliyadde asked the court to issue a warrant for the MP’s arrest, but the CID opposed.
